About Me

My journey to where I am today has been anything but linear. Growing up in south-east Queensland, I was raised in a deeply fundamentalist and conservative religious community. My naturally curious personality and desire to understand the lives and experiences of others was not well received by those around me. So at 18, I made the decision to leave this community and embarked on my own path following my passions and being true to who I am. From there, I spent a few years studying to become a nurse and working in hospitals and residential care homes. It was through this experience that I developed a deep appreciation for hearing people tell their stories and recognising the systemic shortcomings that affect society's most vulnerable.

After spending time travelling overseas (and weathering COVID), I decided to take the plunge and began my
journalism degree in 2022. In my first year, I hit the ground running, reporting on the decriminalisation of sex work
in Queensland and interning with The Courier Mail. In 2023, I joined 4ZZZ Community Radio Brisbane as an intern,
researching, writing, and presenting hourly news bulletins. After my internship, I started training new interns
joining the station and played the role as editor deciding what news would be reported on each day. I also had the
opportunity to intern with ABC Local Radio Brisbane, where I assisted in producing radio segments. Additionally, I
won the 2023 Ossie Award for Best Video Story (Short Form) by an undergraduate or postgraduate student for
my documentary following the story of Rev. Selina McMahon, the only transgender person licensed to run an
Anglican church in Australia. Earlier this year, I interned with SBS Dateline in Sydney, where I assisted reporters in
researching stories, writing and creating visual content for digital and social media channels, scriptwriting, and
developing my own pitches.

Writing all this down, I feel as though I’ve lived several different lives already—and I’m only 23-years-old! It is a
great joy and privilege to be welcomed into people’s lives and hear their stories, and even greater to be able to
tell them. In my journalism, I strive to reveal truths about the world around us, tell stories that challenge the
status quo, and create an impact.
